I'm Chris Buccaro and I've been working as a Graphic & Web Designer / Developer for many years. I've been employed with a few companies during my career, and have worked as a freelance designer for more than a decade. I enjoy the challenge of developing a brand, and then putting it to work in all types of media. I have a great deal of experience with print and digital design, and have expertise in several web coding languages.
My career began as a graphic designer at Starter Corp. in New Haven, CT., before moving on to become the Senior Graphic Designer at Moroso Performance in Guilford, CT. During my time there, I was proud to help Moroso market their way to a new annual sales record of over $1 million.
I went on to join Seton Identification in Branford, CT., where I eventually transitioned from the Senior Graphic Designer to the Creative Director for this B2B company. Seton's marketing efforts primarily focused on direct mail catalog sales of facility management products. Besides the hundreds of catalog covers and marketing emails, I was asked to create a new design theme for their catalog styling and page layout. The goal was to provide a clean, modern look, while improving navigation and ease of use. The project also required a logistical plan for myself and a team of 3 designers to completely re-create their 800+ page, Source Book Catalog, in a 3 month timeframe.
The early years of my career as a graphic designer coincided with the early years of the World-Wide-Web. As the internet took off and companies were scrambling to get online, I became fascinated with this remarkable new medium and the opportunities it was bringing to creative folks. It became a career goal to learn all I could about web design & development, and from that point on, it has been a never-ending journey of learning, adjusting & improving my skills.
In 2009, I made the decision to start my own freelance business that provided all types of design with a focus on digital marketing. In the years that followed I was able to attract several large corporate clients such as Eversource, United Illuminating, Basement Systems, and a number of other CT businesses.
In 2016, I was offered a full time role as a Senior Systems Analyst with Connecticare Inc., in Farmington, CT. The role was less creative than any position I had held in the past, primarily using my knowledge of SQL database design and integration. In Dec. of 2018, Connecticare announced that they would transition to outsource their IT services. After an approximate 12 month transition period, most of Connecticare's IT positions were eliminated. A few months later the Pandemic hit, and I have since returned to full-time, freelance work.
I am a person who loves to design and build things, understanding that fashion and function are equally important. From coming up with detailed architectural plans and constructing the design, to creating a logo or marketing theme and putting it to work in a website, social media or any other promotional piece — taking a concept or idea and bringing it to fruition is the most gratifying part of my profession. As a professional who's been at it for years, I'm keenly aware of the brief moment of time a marketing piece has to attract someone's attention, and how important it is that things work properly to prevent a lost customer.
